Every two seconds, someone in the United States needs a blood transfusion, but Vitalant Pittsburgh collects only 50% of the blood needed by local health care facilities.

The remaining half is imported from blood centers across the country, costing more than $10 million per year.

As the fundraising and philanthropic arm of Vitalant, Blood Science Foundation tapped us to develop a campaign promoting not only increased blood donation, but increased monetary donation to support the purchase of additional blood from surrounding regions.

As part of our awareness push, I filled a window display in one of the biggest and busiest office buildings in downtown Pittsburgh with empty blood bags.

As a second leg of the campaign, the below print ads ran in various local and regional publications. These ads were later developed into animated spots.
